So, what exactly does it entail?
The first stage of a BPSS check involves verifying the candidate’s identity to ensure they are who they claim to be and prevent identity fraud or impersonation.

During a BPSS check, the candidate’s eligibility to legally work in the UK is verified by examining their immigration status and related documents. Relevant documents include Birth Certificates, Passport, Residency Permits and Working Permits.
To verify unspent convictions, candidates will undergo a basic criminal record check using their ID and address information.
Please note: Basic criminal record checks are conducted via the DBS for England & Wales, Disclosure Scotland for Scotland, and Access NI for Northern Ireland.
To establish a candidate’s credibility and work experience, their employment history will be reviewed as a part of the BPSS process. This helps organisations to confirm previous roles, positions held and the overall consistency of their career.
Agenda will contact a candidate’s previous employers from within the last 3 years to verify their career history. Any gaps in employment over 31 days will be flagged and investigated further.
